This is a brief book summary of “Buy Yourself the Fucking Lilies” by Tara Schuster. The book discusses various ideas related to personal development and happiness. The author provides insights and advice on topics such as journaling, exercise, self-talk, self-reflection, and the importance of relationships. I’ve summarized some key takeaways/action items alluded to in the book — most are quite evident, but it can’t hurt to freshen that up.

  1. Take whatever weird little opportunity you have and maximize the fuck out of it. Don’t dismiss any opportunity that comes your way, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Instead, try to make the most of it by putting in your best effort and seeing where it takes you.
  2. There are no big break-[throughs] — just a series of tiny little breaks. Success is not the result of one big breakthrough moment, but rather a series of small, consistent actions that lead to progress over time. Keep working hard and putting in effort, and you will eventually see results.
  3. Journal. A way to get in touch with your core feelings is by forcing you, in writing, to become aware and engaged with the innermost self.
Journaling is a powerful tool for self-reflection and introspection. By writing down your thoughts and feelings, you can gain a better understanding of your innermost self and the issues that may be holding you back.
  4. Do sports. Exercise is important for both physical and mental health…
